By clicking Blog Setting you can setup the blog’s RSS feed settings, set Security parameters, turn on Spam protection and set your commenting parameters.
1. RSS Feed Setup
With RSS Feed Setup you can give the post a Blog/Feed Name (title) as well as enter a description and keywords for search engine optimization. The RSS file path is auto-generated and cannot be modified. You have the ability to enter the number of posts you want displayed in your RSS feed by using the Maximum posts visible in RSS feed text box. The blog setup will show all blog articles in the feed by default. If you would like to have a specific number of feeds displayed, just type the number of feeds in the text box.
2. Auto Archiving
By default, the blog will automatically archive blog posts by month. Selecting Do not archive posts will disable this feature.
3. Blog Security
With the Blog Security feature you can:
- Make this Blog public
- Make this blog private
- Require a login for commenting
By making the blog public, anyone who can find your blog can read it, and submit comments if you have allowed open commenting.
By making the blog private only people with a username and password can read your blog.
By requiring a login for commenting, anyone can read your blog but a username and password is required for commenting on that blog post.
4. Spam Protection
By clicking the check box to turn on Spam Protection, visitors to your blog will be required to enter a randomly generated 5 digit code (a combination of numbers and letters) in order to submit comments to your blog posts. The 5 digit code is not case sensitive. There are two icons to the right of the 5 digit code. Clicking the bottom icon will reshuffle the 5 digits if your visitor cannot read the first iteration of the code. Clicking the top icon will read the 5 digit code aloud, if your visitor has speakers hooked up to his or her computer.
5. Commenting
With the Commenting feature you can:
- Allow approved commenting only
- Allow open commenting
- Allow no commenting
If you choose “Approved commenting allowed,” you will be able to Accept, Mark as Spam, or Delete any comments before they appear on your blog. You can do this by selecting “Comments requiring approval for this post, which appears to the right of your blog post.
6. Commenting Notification
If you enter your email address in the Commenting Notification field of the Blog Setup, you will receive an email notification whenever anyone posts a comment to your blog. The email will contain the entire text of the comment and will allow you to Accept, Mark as Spam, or Delete the comment directly from that email without having to log into your blog project.
If you choose “Open commenting allowed,” anyone that can view and read your blog post(s) may submit comments without approval.
If you choose “No commenting allowed,” commenting on your blog post(s) will not appear as an option for your visitors.
